How Old is Too-Old To Wear a Sports Jersey?

May 24th, 2010

It is the ultimate gift for a young child. The jersey of their favorite team with the name of their favorite player. However, at a certain age, jersey-wearing goes from cool to creepy.

While Jay-Z picked a clear-cut time when he said “you can’t be running around in jerseys when you’re 30 years old,” it seems unfair to pick a specific age, a line-in-the-sand that allows adult men to wear a sports jersey one day, yet be completely forbidden from it the next.

A grown man in a personalized jersey? Pathetic

It should also be noted that not all sports-jerseys are created equal. A basketball jersey, for example, is intended to be worn with nothing under it, which is obviously not socially acceptable in a plethora of public situations.

When a young child is wearing a jersey with another human being’s name on the back, it is an adorable, marvelous symbol of that child’s admiration to that player. When an adult is wearing a jersey with another human being’s name in the back, specifically, one who is younger, it begins to wander into the realm of weird.

A similar rule applies to personalized jersey’s as well. A little kid wearing his own name on the back expresses an optimistic view of the future. An adult with his own name, or even worse, a message that only he and his buddies can understand, is pathetic and sad.

Besides, any person willing to spend $100 on a jersey with a personal joke on the back needs to find a better way to spend their money. Try a vanity license plate, to at least save yourself the embarrassment since people driving behind you won’t be able to see your face.

It would seem, when the fan begins to get older than the players, it is no longer acceptable to rock the jersey. However, this in no way shape or form means the team support should stop. T-shirts, sweatshirts and hats all guarantee you can still represent your favorite franchise while simultaneously acting your age.

Mother’s Day Gift Idea

April 21st, 2010

Mother’s Day is May 9, and what better way to honor the woman who influenced your fashion sense most, than by getting her great gifts. Sometimes that’s easier said than done, as we have learned on many other gift-giving occasions. Buying fashion related gifts can be tricky if you really don’t know what your mom looks for in terms of fashion items, or really isn’t into fashion to begin with.

A fool-proof fashion-related gift is a stylish and comfortable robe. Robes are luxurious, as well as practical and there are tons of different styles, color, cuts, and designs out there.

One we like in particular is the bamboo and organic cotton robe from Nandina. These are available in a wide-array of colors at goodfibers.com!

Not-So-Practical Fashion

April 9th, 2010

In order for fashion to work for the general public, it must be wearable. Often times, high-end designers try not to get caught up in practicalities and put their focus into creating “works of art”. This in turn, inspires some really WEIRD stuff. Here are some photos of the strangest of the strange found on the internet.

New Marc Jacobs Tote

March 26th, 2010

Marc Jacobs, like every other fashion label is known for being many things, but affordable, usually isn’t one of them. Most of the time you have to forgo a month’s rent to afford one his beautifully crafted and designed bags, but if you want a piece of Marc on a budget, he’s more than happy to comply. This incredible cute tote comes in gold, silver and gunmetal, and is $70. The small tote is packed full of that signature Marc Jacobs flair we all love so much. Most handbags these days are more along the lines of duffle bags–they’re simply huge. It’s nice to see a slimmed down bag that take the bulk out of the purse, but still is incredibly stylish and classy.

Hyundai Being Sued By Louis Vuitton

March 2nd, 2010

If you tuned into the Superbowl this year and saw Hyundai’s ad, you may have noticed something a little familiar in it… the Louis Vuitton monogram. In the split-second scene, there’s a guy holding a basketball printed with that notorious gold monogram–a bad move for the auto maker. And not just because it was a really, really, bad commercial; Louis V doesn’t take kindly to folks stealing his logos.

Wardrobe Staples

March 1st, 2010

It’s important for any woman to have those few go-to items in her wardrobe. Classic, versatile items are essential to looking good and feeling comfortable.

The Pencil Skirt has been a staple to looking sleek and stylish for years. It’s considered a staple because it can be dressed for the office with a crisp button-down shirt, styled for a  night out with an embellished top and blazer, or dressed down for an afternoon out shopping with a v-neck t-shirt and comfortable flats.

Which bring us to out next staple item: comfortable flats. Sure, heels are great, but lets be real, flats are better. Flats are great because you can pretty much wear them with anything and still look great. And there are so many varieties in the style, that you can basically have a pair for any occasion.

Another staple item is a day dress. Women really don’t wear dresses like they used to in the 50s and back. Nowadays we tend to reserve dresses for special occasions or view them as evening wear. But it’s nice, and comfortable, to have a casual day dress to wear if you’re sick of the jeans and t-shirt look.
