The Pencil Skirt has been a staple to looking sleek and stylish for years. Which bring us to out next staple item: comfortable flats. Sure, heels are great, but lets be real, flats are better. Flats are great because you can pretty much wear them with anything and still look great. And there are so many varieties in the style, that you can basically have a pair for any occasion.

Another staple item is a day dress. Women really don’t wear dresses like they used to in the 50s and back. Nowadays we tend to reserve dresses for special occasions or view them as evening wear. What I recommend is to invest in a pair of Timberland boots. Classic colors like black and brown are nice, and they stomp through the snow like it’s their job, because it is.  I have a pair of each, and they’ve lasted me for more than eight years now. My dad had a pair of stompers when he was around my age, and they finally gave out on him – the heel began to fall off. He was devastated, and called the company because they had a lifetime guarantee on the boot. Unfortunately they didn’t make his specific shoe, but they sent him a gift certificate for the amount the shoe would have cost, had it been current. With it, he brought a brand new pair of stompers, and he can get through the snow no problem.

Now I suppose if you don’t mind coughing up an extra couple of bucks to be perfectly comfortable then by all means, wear a coat. But the shacket is a safe alternative for those of us who feel like it’s good to suffer a little bit to be beautiful. Plus, most good shackets are made in America, and come in a variety of colors and styles; for example, you can get the classic red and black, or white and black plaid, or you can be more experimental. I have a yellow and green one that, I have to say, looks rather dashing. So when you shop, just make sure it’s lined with a  bit of extra material, and hey, now you’re shacketing with all the best!
