Mother’s Day is May 9, and what better way to honor the woman who influenced your fashion sense most, than by getting her great gifts. Marc Jacobs, like every other fashion label is known for being many things, but affordable, usually isn’t one of them. Most of the time you have to forgo a month’s rent to afford one his beautifully crafted and designed bags, but if you want a piece of Marc on a budget, he’s more than happy to comply. This incredible cute tote comes in gold, silver and gunmetal, and is $70. The small tote is packed full of that signature Marc Jacobs flair we all love so much. Most handbags these days are more along the lines of duffle bags–they’re simply huge. It’s nice to see a slimmed down bag that take the bulk out of the purse, but still is incredibly stylish and classy.

If you tuned into the Superbowl this year and saw Hyundai’s ad, you may have noticed something a little familiar in it… the Louis Vuitton monogram. In the split-second scene, there’s a guy holding a basketball printed with that notorious gold monogram–a bad move for the auto maker. And not just because it was a really, really, bad commercial; Louis V doesn’t take kindly to folks stealing his logos.

It’s important for any woman to have those few go-to items in her wardrobe. Classic, versatile items are essential to looking good and feeling comfortable.

The Pencil Skirt has been a staple to looking sleek and stylish for years. It’s considered a staple because it can be dressed for the office with a crisp button-down shirt, styled for a night out with an embellished top and blazer, or dressed down for an afternoon out shopping with a v-neck t-shirt and comfortable flats.

Which bring us to out next staple item: comfortable flats. Sure, heels are great, but lets be real, flats are better. Flats are great because you can pretty much wear them with anything and still look great. And there are so many varieties in the style, that you can basically have a pair for any occasion.

Another staple item is a day dress. Women really don’t wear dresses like they used to in the 50s and back. Nowadays we tend to reserve dresses for special occasions or view them as evening wear. But it’s nice, and comfortable, to have a casual day dress to wear if you’re sick of the jeans and t-shirt look.

Winter is pretty brutal, and if you’re in the northern part of the country, it doesn’t look like it’s easing up anytime soon. So if you don’t already have an awesome winter hat to keep you hair protected from the elements and your ears from turning into little icicles, here are some cool winter hats we’ve been seeing around the city that you may want to check out.

Fur Hats:

These have been pretty popular this winter season in neutral tones like brown and tan. They look stylish when paired with a neutral coat and most definetly have you covered in the warmth department.

Berets:

Not just for French class, this winter seems to have started a Beret renaissance. These are great for winter because they look classic and chic and are often made of wool, which is winter-weather friendly.

Knitted Hats:

These have always been a staple in winter wear and are more poplar than ever. If you’re tired of the plain version, you should try to find one adorned with applique flowers or beads, or one in a bright color.

Fedora:

The classically cool fedora looks great with casual or work attire. You can pull this hat off in rain, sleet or snow. Either way it has you covered in both the style and weather-protection departments.
