Sometimes there are fashion websites I just fall in love with. I love getting inspiration for new outfits but sometimes I feel like the runways and celebrities aren’t the best material to get inspiration from, because the outfits are just either too outrageous or far beyond my budget. I longed for some inspiration from real life fashionistas and that’s when I came across Chictopia.

It’s full of people, men and women, submitting their own photos of their day to day outfits. And my god, they are fabulous! They also make me severely jealous of their wardrobes. The great thing is, they list almost every piece they wear, name and brand, and it runs the gamut from more expensive designer clothes to items you can find at H&M. They take anything and make it look GOOD!

I mean, check out the outfit below on user LouiseDarling. Look at that skirt, those boots!

And this outfit from Jamour? Can I raid her closet, PLEASE?

It seriously inspires both jealousy and creativity to start changing up my wardrobe and seeing how I can incorporate these styles into my own day to day wardrobe.

so if you are pining for something new, are dying for some ideas, Chictopia is it.

We may be in the heart of winter, but that does not mean that we cannot dream about spring. And, while you wait for the weather to warm up and sundress season to start (it will happen, promise!), you may incorporate certain warmer season elements into your wardrobe.

Pair one of your summer skirts or wear winter-fabric shorts with a pair of funky sweater tights. This way you are getting the best of both worlds; you may express your desire to wear bolder colors and patterns with your need to stay warm while looking stylish. Mixing and patching different textures will keep your wardrobe fresh and interesting

This is not to say that winter fabrics and patterns are without their merit. They have many benefits; primary among them is that they are made of thicker fabric that is designed to keep you warmer in the long winter months. Plaids and flannels come in different colors and fabrics, which enables you to incorporate them into your wardrobe I n a variety of ways. Corduroy also offer dependable, versatile fashion options, since they come in a variety of forms.

Wearing the same type of clothing becomes stagnant after a while, so combine cold and warmer weather fashion trends.

I did some shopping recently and picked up a beautiful pleated, pumpkin orange skirt for the fall. It’s thick, about knee length, and just adorable. And orange being my favorite color, I couldn’t pass it up. So how does one wear an orange skirt without looking like they are trying too hard?

I plan on making the skirt the statement piece so softer colors with it may be the best idea. Cream and white tops are a safe bet. A sweater for the cooler days and a light blouse for the warmer days of fall will work. Tucked in a top, especially with a pleated skirt, and it will really pull together your look instead of looking sloppy. Grey also works as a variant on the white.

Blue is actually a nice contrast to orange as well, but stick with a cobalt blue and nothing too much brighter. Navy can pair as well. Black tops work as well but try not to look too much like a Halloween Queen, it’ll come off tacky.

For accessories, grey or cream shoes will pair well without clashing or attracting too much attention. And don’t ever forget the wonders of a nude pump! They go with everything, hence why they are NUDE! Pick handbags in a brown or nice, fall green color. You’ll be surprised how well they pop against the orange. And gold, gold, gold for jewelry accessories! They are going to compliment beautifully.

I can’t wait to pair my skirt with a perfect pair of pumps or flat boots and wear it both to work and out at night. Embrace the boldness of orange this fall!

While at a concert in Brooklyn last night I was continually stunned by the complete disregard for any semblance of normalcy in people’s outfits. One might think that the incessant mockery of the Williamsburg hipster, and in particular the hipster who feels the need to take everything to an extreme, would lead them to retreat or at least reconsider their eye-patches and mullets. Instead it seems to be making these walking talking circus freaks stronger. It is as if the mockery it’s self has made these kids dig their heals in harder than ever before.

Within a few hours I saw a guy on a unicycle and a few minutes after that an adult on some sort of “steam punk” motorized skateboard. These “wacky” modes of transportation underscored their chosen fashion choices. Unicycle guy had a handlebar mustache that would Raleigh Fingers blush, he was shirtless with suspenders and a beret. The steam-punk idiot was even worse choosing to wear a metallic chest plate and the weirdest shaped/filthiest mow-hawk I have ever seen.

Basically it was a lesson in fashion don’ts without any dos. Just cause you live in a cool neighborhood does not mean all of your fashion choices wise ones.

It’s almost here. The 4th of July. Where we celebrate our independence with good food, fireworks, and patriotic music. We also celebrate it by donning red white and blue. Of course, there’s a right way and a wrong way to wear it. Draping yourself in an American flag may be over the top, but you can add some subtle choices to get in the patriotic spirit.

Here’s a few great picks:

This beautiful nautical dress from TopShop is red, white, and blue and yet cute and adorable. Pair it with a solid blue heel and your set to go!

This sweater top from Forever 21 will have you showing off your patriotism while being comfortable.

Anthropologie has these striped espadrilles that will be cute and comfy while you watch the fireworks.

Stick with the typical red, white and blue or if you want, pick two colors for the outfit and the third for accessories.

This beautiful bracelet from one Etsy seller is all the color you need to make a statement without over doing it.

Whatever it is you plan to do this 4th of July weekend, you’ll be really in the spirit with some of these great pieces.

In 1993, you were nobody unless you were rocking on of those sweet bucket hats with the flipped up brim. They were usually adorned with a flower, or if it was really cool, a fake sunflower, much like the style’s poster-child, TV’s Blossom.

Mine was all-demin, with a demin flower right in the center of the flipped up brim. It had pink plaid lining, and for the entire 3rd grade school year, it was my wardrobe staple.

Back in the day, these hats were like the female version of Air Jordans. You were no one unless you had one of these baby’s on your head. But it seemed like a year later, they were done. Over. And I was glad. Am glad.

Today, my denim Blossom hat is probably sitting in the bottom of a bin, in a dingy thrift store right now, telling all the other hats about that one time when it was the coolest hat on the block.

But I have a bad feeling these relics of the 90s are on their way to making an ironic hipster comeback. After all, fashion is cyclical. It takes about 20 years for something that was once a fashion faux pas, to be considered “cool” again (i.e. Wayfarers, Plaid flannel shirts, and ugh, fanny packs). So going by history, the Blossom hat could be here any day now.

Good riddance Blossom hat! May you never rear your ugly head again.

But how do you choose one that flatters your figure?

If you’ve got well-toned legs, show them off in a sundress with a side slit. If you have heavier legs, choose a longer, fuller flowing skirt.

Got a small bust? An empire-waist dress or a dress with a ruffled top will help you create the illusion of a bigger bust. Minimize bigger busts by choosing a V-neck top.

Got well-toned shoulders? Play them up with a halter-neck top. If you’ve got a boyish figure, choose a dress darts on the side to make your hips look curvier.

If you’ve got slender arms and a slender neck, accentuate them with spaghetti straps. You can hide heavier arms by draping a light weight scarf over your shoulders.

If you’re petite, go for a mini dress – the short length will make your legs look longer.

Here are summer essentials that every girl needs in her bag when she steps out into the sun:

Big bag – Ditch your little hand bag and go for a big, colorful canvas bag that will hold all your bits and pieces, described below.

Hair accessories – They’re easy to lose, so make sure you’ve always got some spare bobby pins and hair elastics in your bag to help you keep your hair up and feel cool.

SPF sunscreen – Sun causes wrinkles, and sun burns are not a pretty look. Always carry a travel-size SPF sunscreen with you and apply it every couple of hours.

Moist towelettes – Sweat dripping down your forehead is uncomfortable, so have a packet of moist towelettes on hand at all times.

Body spray – Travel-size body spray is super cheap and does wonders to cool you down. Plus, it comes in plenty of fruity flavors to make you smell beautiful.

Lip balm – Lip balm is not just for keeping your lips moist, it can also prevent sunburn. Apply SPF 15 chapstick every few hours to protect your lips.

It’s summertime and that means it’s time to hit the beach in your new bikini. The bikini is the sexiest summer fashion accessory around, but avoid the temptation to buy the first itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny yellow polka-dot bikini you see. Color, patterns, style and general cuteness are all important, but so is fit.

When choosing a bikini, pay attention to the sizing guide in the store. Generally, a well-fitted bikini will be a size larger than your regular top size. Try on a couple of suits and make sure you do some stretches and contortions in the fitting room to make sure everything fits well – if it’s loose in the fitting room, then it’s going to fall off in the surf. Lift your arms, bend your knees and jump around to see how the suit holds up. If you’re big busted, choose a bikini top with a built-in bra.

To test the bikini bottom, stand on your tip toes and bend over. If the bottom rides up, it’s too small; if there’s ample room at the crotch, it’s too big. Ensure that the bikini straps lie flat against your shoulders but are not too tight, make sure your rear is adequately covered, and check that the waistband and leg openings are firm yet comfortable. If the bikini fits these criteria, buy it and get out there and enjoy the surf!
