Jason Wu Brings Fashion Collection to Target

Target will soon be featuring another designer’s collection! Jason Wu’s clothing and accessories arrive officially launch at the chain store on February 5^th. You will now be able to afford and wear clothing made by the same man who crafted the dress worn by Michelle Obama during the Presidential Inagural Ball.

Wu joins other notable designers, such as Missoni, who have created affordable, sophisticated designs Target customers. Last year’s Missoni collection was a huge success, and it seems that Wu’s collection will enjoy the same recognition. The fifty-three piece collection is reportedly inspired by Wu’s passion for French new-age film.His designs consist of clean lines and intricate details, which are enhanced against solid prints.

The collection will include clothing as well as accessories such as scarves and handbags, which range in price from $19.99 to $59.99. Thom Browne’s Fall 2012 Collection Gives Me Nightmares

I thoroughly enjoy fashion shows, I do. Often I see some beautiful designs that I can’t wait to experience translated into more wearable, every day attire. And even the more outrageous shows have a bit of spunk and fun to them. But Thom Browne’s most recent runway show has had me (and most of the people I’ve showed it to) cringe in terror.

With a mix of punk and jock, he’s created some concoction of monster that looks like they’ve been injected with steroids or whatever it is that makes The Hulk, well, The Hulk. Don’t forget a bit of Pinhead mixed in with a dash of Rocky Horror makeup and you’ve got the scariest looking runway show in years.

There’s avant-garde and then there’s just plain lunacy. I think we know which side he’s on. Once you throw kilts into the mix, you know you are heading to terrifying territory.

Hopefully, I have not passed on my nightmares to any readers by posting this today. If I do, I’m sorry.

Chanel Remains Boldly Classic in Paris

Nothing like Spring time in Paris! The first hints of the fresh season are in the air as Paris Fashion Week dominates and captivates the City of Lights. All the major designers have shows for this period, including the Karl Langerfeld’s Haute Couture Collection for Chanel.

There were certain traits, such as blue tones and wide, loose collars, which dominated the collection. These designs are modern twists on classic Chanel looks of the past. Fashionably funky tweed pants and skirts suits were also popular as were bubble sleeves, and ruffles and other 3D, texturized fabrics.

While some of these ensembles were obviously over-the-top ensembles, many of the looks could be obviously and easily translated into less outrageous, more accessible looks. This is largely the appeal of any Chanel collection; while it is bold and over-the-top on the runway, it still appears like doable fashion to the audience at the show and abroad. Although these ensembles were accented by spiky hairdos and towering heels, their innate elegance was not overwhelmed by these accessories.

At Paris Fashion Week 2012, Chanel once again showcases a classic, elegant collection that any fashionista may imagine herself wearing.

Banana Republic’s Mad Men Collection

Let us discuss Banana Republic’s “Mad Men” collect ion. Personally, I cannot imagine anyone having a negative comment to make about it. The looks, all of which are inspired by the show, which in turn were inspired by actual styles of the 1950s and early 1960s, are classic and flattering for both women and men. The fashions are for both work and casual wear, and are reminiscent of outfits worn by Peggy, Joan, Betty, Pete, Roger, and of course, Don.

My favorite item is definitely the Izzy classic pump. The shoes are available in either black or rouge; personally, I really want the pumps in rouge. They are available for $120, which a coworker thinks is less than the original price. I am going to wait a week before I adore them and see if the price goes down again.

The reviews of the shoes have been very positive. The majority of reviews are very positive, and every reviewer mentions that she is overall pleased with the purchase. The shoes are listed as running true to size.

Everything in the Mad Men collection was designed in collaboration with the television series’ costume designer, Janie Bryant, so the clothing literally looks like it was taken from the show.

Dopey Hipster Fashion

How do these kids not feel ridiculous? While at a concert in Brooklyn last night I was continually stunned by the complete disregard for any semblance of normalcy in people’s outfits. One might think that the incessant mockery of the Williamsburg hipster, and in particular the hipster who feels the need to take everything to an extreme, would lead them to retreat or at least reconsider their eye-patches and mullets. Instead it seems to be making these walking talking circus freaks stronger. It is as if the mockery it’s self has made these kids dig their heals in harder than ever before.

Within a few hours I saw a guy on a unicycle and a few minutes after that an adult on some sort of “steam punk” motorized skateboard. These “wacky” modes of transportation underscored their chosen fashion choices. Unicycle guy had a handlebar mustache that would Raleigh Fingers blush, he was shirtless with suspenders and a beret. The steam-punk idiot was even worse choosing to wear a metallic chest plate and the weirdest shaped/filthiest mow-hawk I have ever seen.

Basically it was a lesson in fashion don’ts without any dos. Just cause you live in a cool neighborhood does not mean all of your fashion choices wise ones.

Carolina Herrera’s Gemstones and Shine

Being on top of the fashion world is no joke! It requires hard work, dedication, self confidence, positivity and professionalism and self belief. Without these positive traits, you wouldn’t be on top of success especially in the world of fashion which competitions are too tight.

Great thing that Carolina Herrera has perfected the method of elegantly brightening up the dark and wintry months for a woman’s wardrobe, where grays and blacks can seemingly overtake the whole of it and she prove this at her fall 2011 show in New York on Monday, Feb. 14 which is also the hearts day. A great blessing to Carolina, indeed!

Herrera’s trained eye for detail did not allow the colors to outdo each other but rather compliment and further extract the depth of each pigment. Her color fusions made even the dullest of shades look as rich as the natural rainbow-colored rocks. (Yahoo News)

These days, fashion functionality is on the rise. Take, for instance, fingerless gloves. These have been a major hit this year. Why? Because they keep most of your hand warm. Sure your fingertips suffer a little. But tactile sensations can be felt without removing your gloves. You can tie your shoes gloves on. That’s functionality, baby.

In the Barney’s winter catalogue, there were a surprising number of costumes featuring food. Edible necklaces, fruit-filled hats, and octopi are all fashionable these days, because hey, you are what you eat. Functionality makes it so that you eat what you are (or wear).

The Hunger Pains series features a couple of guys from Project Runway, Daniel Feld and Wesley Nault, as well as 13 other designers. These pieces were made with actual food, and although they probably don’t exist any more, they’re cool, and may be a sign of what is to come in the fashion world.

Best-Dressed at the SAG Awards

The SAG Awards were last night, which means it’s time to take a look at some of the best and worst of the red carpet styles.

Julia Stiles so rarely is invited to these things, and her odd flamenco dress at the Golden Globes made it seem like she wasn't quite sure what to do. However, she either pulled herself together or got a stylist, because she looked great last night.

I'm not 100% sure what's going on with the bottom of Lea Michele's dress, but for the most part the cut is great, the color is def great, and those shoes look adorable.

I have to admit — I have a huge girl-crush on Mila Kunis, especially since she started actually trying at awards shows. For a while she was notorious for wearing very sleek but boring numbers, but her dress at the Golden Globes was fantastic, as is this one.

This is a huge breath of fresh air in comparison to Mindy Kaling's previous awards show numbers. I love her to death, but she looked like a deranged prom date at the Emmy's. She stepped it up for the Golden Globes, but this is still worlds better. It's hard to pull off an asymmetrical look like that, but she does it perfectly.

Tina Fey is another one who only recently seemed to start putting any effort into her red carpet looks. She hit rock bottom at last year's Oscars, when she wore a single-strapped kind of shiny animal print JUMPSUIT, and after that I think she maybe got a stylist or something. Anyway, I'm actually not too crazy about this dress, but she's gets major points for wearing Oscar de la Renta.
